The Department of Mechanical Engineering at SHEAT College of Engineering defines Programme Outcomes (POs), Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs), and Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs) in alignment with industry needs, global challenges, and societal development. These outcomes ensure that graduates are well-prepared as engineers, innovators, and leaders.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

Engineering Graduates will be able to:

  • PO1 – Engineering Knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.
  • PO2 – Problem Analysis: Identify, formulate, review research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.
  • PO3 – Design/Development of Solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.
  • PO4 – Conduct Investigations of Complex Problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions.
  • PO5 – Modern Tool Usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.
  • PO6 – The Engineer and Society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.
  • PO7 – Environment and Sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.
  • PO8 – Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

The Mechanical Engineering department provides extensive laboratory facilities to give students practical exposure across core and advanced areas — from manufacturing and fluids to thermal, materials, and CAD/CAM labs. 1. Computer Aided Engineering Graphics Lab

Established to address basic designing needs across engineering — design and preparation of machine drawings, using manual drafting and CAD tools.

2. Central Workshop

Equipped with machining, fitting, carpentry, welding, smithy, sheet metal, foundry and fabrication shops to provide hands-on manufacturing and fabrication experience.

3. Fluid Mechanics Lab

Experiments on Venturi meter, orifice meter, Reynolds experiment, Bernoulli’s theorem, flow channels, V-notch, Darcy apparatus and other hydraulic devices.

4. Measurement & Metrology Lab

Contains precision measurement instruments and metrology setups for quality control practice aligned with industry standards.

5. Thermodynamics Lab

Understanding boilers, boiler mountings, steam power plant components and IC engine testing for performance and emission characteristics.

6. Material Science Lab

Equipment like muffle furnace, metallographic microscope, abrasive cutoff machine and ultrasonic setups for microstructure and material property studies.

7. Manufacturing Science Lab

Focus on advanced machining and manufacturing — lathe, milling, casting, forging, welding and project work for production/fabrication exercises.

8. Theory of Machines Lab

Models and equipment for kinematics, balancing, vibrations, flywheels and gear drive demonstrations to understand machine dynamics.

9. Refrigeration & Air Conditioning (RAC) Lab

State-of-the-art facilities to study refrigeration cycles, domestic refrigerators, components and concepts of cooling/heating systems.

10. Machine Design I & II Lab

Machine drawing and detailing practice (manual & CAD) to prepare assembly/reinforcement drawings per national/international standards.

11. Heat & Mass Transfer Lab

Practical experiments related to heat exchangers, conduction/convection/radiation, and applications in power plants and thermal systems.

12. Fluid Machinery Lab

Experiments on impact of jet, Pelton, Francis, Kaplan turbines, hydraulic ram, centrifugal and reciprocating pumps to study performance characteristics.

13. I.C. Engine Lab

Up-to-date rigs and instrumentation to conduct experiments on internal combustion engines and evaluate mechanical performance.

14. Automobile Lab

Hands-on training on transmission, suspension, chassis systems and automobile components for practical automobile engineering exposure.

15. CAD/CAM Lab

Industrial CNC lathe and CAM software to plan, manage and control manufacturing operations — training for advanced manufacturing sectors.
